Managing News Topic

Managing News Topic

You have to prepare the news content that you want to add in the website. There should be both image files (a thumbnail and a full size image) and news’ wording. In News Management control panel, scroll down to Add News box, and do the followings.

  1. Type the news topic in Subject: field.
  2. Click on Insert Table button.
  3. After the table grid pop-up appears, move the mouse pointer across 2 top left cells to mark the hilight in these cells. Click mouse.

There will be a table with dash line on the space. Do the followings.

  1. Click mouse in the left column to move the cursor inside the cell.
  2. Click on Image button to bring up Image dialog box.
  3. Click on a yellow openning folder button.

Asset manager — Web Page Dialog box will then appear. This box displays all image files uploaded to the website. On the right part of the box, there are image files list. You can click on file name to display it on the left space. You can browse thourgh files list and delete each one by clicking on del command (don’t delete any file just yet).

  1. Click on Browse button to browse to the thumbnail image file for the news snippet.
  2. The Choose file dialog box appears. Browse to the file you want and click it to select.
  3. Click Open button.

Back to Asset Manager box, do the followings

  1. click on Upload button to upload the image file to the website.
  2. The image will be displayed on the left space and the file name will be inserted on the files list.
  3. click OK button.

Back to Image dialog box, here you can see all the options that you set for the image. However, at this point, you don’t have to specify any setting.

  1. click on insert button.
  2. We have successfully added thumbnail image in the frist column of the table.

You may see that the left column is too wide. Lets narrow it for a little bit. First we have to check the width of the thumbnial image so we know how wide the column should be.

  1. While the thumbnail image is still selected (with the anchor points appear around it) click on Image button.
  2. Appears, the Image dialog box, showing the dimension of the thumbnail. Now that we know the width of the thumbnail, we know how wide the column should be.
  3. click Cancel button.

Lets specify the width for the column.

  1. click mouse in the colune to move the cursor there.
  2. click on Edit Table/Cell button and select Edit Cell command from the drop down list.
  3. After Cell Properties dialog box displays, specify width for the column in Fixed cell width: field (in this case, make it 10 pixel wider than the width of the thumnail image.)
  4. Click OK button.

Done with the left column.

  1. Now you can type in the snippet for the news in the right column. After finish, scroll down to the bottom of the window where there are more options to set. (Skip the Extended News: part for now.)
  2. Lets say we want this news to be displayed from 7:00 AM on Febuary, 1st 2008 to 24:00 PM on Febuary, 31st 2008. So set the value to Start Date: and End Date: options accordingly. Set the Visibility:, Enable Comments, and Enable Ratings options as you want to. (Leave Start Date: and End Date: options empty to immediately show news and show it until you manually delete it.)
  3. Click Preview button to preview the news.

The news will be displayed in the box with the title specified in Subject: field like following.

That’s all you can see from the news we just created.

  1. Now, scroll down to the Extended News: part and fill in the full detail of the news. Insert prepared full size image in to the news detail and format the text the way you want by using control buttons (called WYSIWYG editor) above the space.
  2. Click Save News button

This time when the news is displayed in the website, there will be a Read More command that readers can click to view the full detail.
